The 148th Fighter Wing deployed in 2005, 2007 and 2008 to Joint Base Balad, Iraq. Approximately 300 members are scheduled to deploy to Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan, the unit's first deployment with their Suppression of Enemy Air Defense (SEAD) and Destruction of Enemy Air Defense (DEAD) mission.
