The 148th Fighter Wing earned its second consecutive Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (AFOUA) for its efforts from November 1, 2007 to October 31, 2008. The AFOUA is awarded by Secretary of the Air Force to units that have distinguished themselves by exceptionally meritorious service our outstanding achievement that clearly sets the unit apart from similar units.

During this rating period, the 148th demonstrated that they were a premier Air Sovereignty Alert unit; flying missions at Hickam Air Force Base, Elmendorf Air Force Base and in Minneapolis, Minn. in support of the 2008 Republican National Convention all while maintaining home station Alert.

In addition to their Alert accomplishments, the 148th maintained its positive history of inspection ratings; earning an "Excellent" April Health Services Inspection (HSI) rating and a "Mission Ready" Alert Force Evaluation rating.

While the 148th reached many operational and support records during the year, they continued to focus on safety. This success was proven when the 148th was the first Air Force, Reserve or Guard unit to earn OSHA's Voluntary Protection "Star" Rating for exceeding OSHA safety guidelines.
