Staff Sgt. Thomas P. Garvey is a member of the 148th Fighter Wing Medical Group. He is also a nurse at the Twin Ports VA Outpatient Clinic in Superior.

Being a member of the Air National Guard sometimes requires time away from his civilian job.

And it's that time away that prompted Garvey to nominate clinical operations manager at the Twin Ports Clinic, Mary Kolosky, for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriotic Employer award for her support of his duty.

"I have been employed by several large employers and Ms. Kolosky, clinical operations manager, has been the most supportive manager that I have work with," Garvey wrote of her. "I have not denied any deployments and she has worked with me on numerous occasions to accommodate my participation with the 148th Fighter Wing.

"Dr. Clyde Markon, medical director, has also contributed greatly to the atmosphere at the clinic toward serving veterans."

Garvey also thanked the nursing staff, which in his absence had to step-up to get the job done.

The ESGR works at developing and promoting employer support for guard and reserve service by recognizing outstanding support for employers of service members.
